Doudna Supercomputer — UC-Berkeley — February 16, 2026

The "Doudna" supercomputer, announced in May 2025 for NERSC (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory), is expected to be one of the world's most powerful, with projected performance roughly 10 times that of the current 19th-ranked Perlmutter system.

Based on this, it is expected to place among the top five, with some projections placing it fourth.

Specs:
  • Projected Rank: Potential top-4 or top-5 contender upon completion.
  • Performance: Designed for at least 10x the performance of the current 79.23 Petaflop/s Perlmutter system.
  • Technology: Powered by Dell and NVIDIA's next-gen "Vera Rubin" platform.
  • Purpose: The machine is designed for AI-driven scientific research. It is important to note that the Doudna machine is expected to be fully operational in the coming years and its exact, final rank will be determined upon completion of its construction and benchmarking by the TOP500 organization.
